Kevin Buckler and some Quick Questions from the Road Racers Podcast
Kevin Buckler and some Quick Questions from the Road Racers Podcast
If you follow Professional Road Racing, you undoubtedly will be familiar with the name Kevin Buckler. Kevin is the Team Owner and CEO of the Racer’s Group.
Kevin Buckler ’s The Racer’s Group, or TRG as it is often called has quite an interesting history in Motorsports competition.

I can remember back to 1995 when Kevin entered his first IMSA event at the California Grand Prix at Sears Point International Raceway in a Porsche 911.
Kevin Buckler won the IMSA GTS-2 Class honors that day at Sonoma, finishing one spot ahead of Jack Lewis of Atlanta Georgia in another Porsche 911 RaceCar.
I was paying very close attention to all of this because I was doing Driver Coaching and Competition Driver Development work for Jack Lewis at the time, and Jack earned IMSA’s coveted Most Improved Driver Award that year.
Kevin Buckler and I had the opportunity to talk recently about his passion for Motorsports and the challenges and the demands in today’s Professional Auto Racing World.
We chatted about the challenges ahead as TRG transitions further into the NASCAR world and his team’s upgraded 2010 Sprint Cup Racing Program.
The beauty of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is not lost on Kevin, an event his team has won as well as other endurance road races including the 24 Hours of Daytona.
As a winning team owner Kevin gives advice to others who also may have spent moments at the sidelines of the Long Beach Grand Prix and wondered just how to go about this racing thing.
From Southern California to Racing in the South, here is Kevin Buckler.

John Bondar and the Canadian Touring Car Championship
John Bondar is President of the very successful Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship Presented By Toyo Tires
The Road Racers Podcast recently had the opportunity to slow down CCTCC Series President John Bondar just long enough to talk to us about himself as well as filling us in on some of the latest in Canadian Road Racing.
If you are a long time listener of the Road Racers Podcast you will know it has already been three years since we last interviewed John and chatted to him about the Canadian Touring Car scene.
Canada, you may be surprised has a long history in Road Racing competition.
We learned of some of the early Motorsport influences for John going back to 1972 and witnessing Sir Jackie Stewart winning the Formula One Race at Mosport. Also his memories of meeting Gilles Villeneuve in his Formula Atlantic racing days and the circumstances surrounding the unplanned meeting.
John has been involved in many areas of Canadian Motorsports from Corner Marshalling to being a competitor himself, to his current role as President of the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship Presented By Toyo Tires.
John talks of his passion for Motorsports outside of Road Racing and discusses the current state and challenges for Road Racing in both the United States and Canada.

Enjoy and we will see you at the track.

24 Hours of LeMons Southern Style
If you have never seen one of the 24 Hours of Lemons race events in person you won’t believe it.
Recently we had the good fortune of attending the second day of the 24 Hours of Lemons event at Carolina Motorsports Park in South Carolina.
It is unlike any other Motorsport event that we have witnessed or ever been a part of. This is an event that you do need to see in person.
This RoadRacersPodcast is a little different than usual.
First off we will bring you some audio direct from the event.
Then second we move onto the signature event for the 24 Hours of Lemons. Yes at each event there is a car crushing. At this event there was a great showing of passion for Motorsports and the crowd decided something unexpected. You will have to listen to the show to find out what happened.
Lastly, we went back into the RaceRemote.com audio archive vault to search out an interview we did some time ago. A few years back we interviewed a winning team member from the 2007 Thunderhill Raceway 24 Hours of Lemons event - Sean Hedrick.
We would like to thank everyone at the 24 Hours of Lemons for putting on such a great event and a special thanks to the following for their hospitality at the race.
We don’t mean a catered hospitality suite trackside or anything like that. We just mean real good old racing passion and excitement.

Thanks all for making it a blast .

Darren Law and some Quick Questions from the Road Racers Podcast
Darren Law is a recent overall winner of the famous 24 Hours of Daytona Endurance Road Racing event.
That is Darren Law and the rest of his Brumos Racing Team driving partners, David Donahue, Buddy Rice and Antonio Garcia.
I have had the pleasure of meeting and seeing Darren at many race tracks and auto racing events over the years.
The first time meeting Darren was back in the mid 1990’s during a test session for the North American Super Touring Car Series that was held at the Mid-Ohio Race Course. I would also often see Darren serving as a ringer at numerous HSR events.
He is always a pleasure to talk with and we think you will enjoy hearing from Darren Law.

The Business of Motorsport - Mazda Style - Part 2
This is Part Two - of a Two Part Recording - and is a recorded excerpt from the Seminar that the MazdaSpeed Motorsports Development Program - hosted on improving the “off track” performance of Racers - during the recent 2008 PRI Show.
If you missed Part One - click on this link: The Business of Motorsport - Mazda Style Part 1
This seminar was designed for - and was open to “all Racers” - not just those in the MazdaSpeed Motorsports Development Program.
This seminar was held during the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show and was open to anyone involved in the sport of Auto Racing. Drivers and Racing Teams working to make a name for themselves would especially benefit from the tips and knowledge given during this session.
Again these are excerpts from the seminar.
Tell them what you think - as I know they are considering other ways to get this knowledge and advice “out there” to you - the Racers.
We believe that this information will help the Sport of Auto Racing as a whole - and that is why we at the Road Racers Podcast decided to bring this audio recording to you.
We think you will enjoy this.

The Business of Motorsport - Mazda Style - Part 1
The MazdaSpeed Motorsports Development Program - hosted a very informative Seminar for improving the “off track” performance of Racers during the recent 2008 PRI Show.
This seminar was designed for - and was open to “all Racers” - not just those in the MazdaSpeed Motorsports Development Program.
Clearly Dean Case, Jim Jordan and John Doonan - the three presenters for this seminar - have done some forward thinking about their involvement in Motorsports.
Unfortunately the seminar was posted to the events calendar at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show - on the late side. As such - the conference room still had some seats available - but anyone involved in the sport or Auto Racing - especially drivers working to make a name for themselves would benefit from the tips and knowledge given during this session.
Again these are excerpts from the seminar.
Tell them what you think - as I know they are considering other ways to get this knowledge and advice “out there” to you - the Racers.
This is Part One - of a Two Part Recording - and is a recorded excerpt from that Seminar.
Part Two will be posted shortly. We think you will enjoy them both.
